WHY FASTHIT AND NOT ANOTHER BRAND?

We have studied all the strengths and weaknesses of the competition and have addressed the weaknesses over several versions with feedback from a wide variety of shooters including UKPSA and IPSC England shooters. Even so, we are still happy to take feedback and are eager to improve where we can. The issues we see with other brands are these.

  • Frame Thickness– The tube occluding the weak eye should be as thin as possible in order not to obscure small or distant targets. Many poorly made sights have very thick walls. A FastHit has 0.6mm wall thickness. This thickness maintains durability whilst not rendering the sight useless for distant targets.
  • Eye Occlusion Tube– The length of the tube that prevents your weak eye from seeing the dot is important. If it’s too short you will see two dots with both eyes open. The brain then has to take a fraction of a second to choose which dot to focus on. A FastHit has a tube more than 40mm long to prevent this.
  • Fibre Optic Rod– The fibre optic rod needs to be of good quality. The end which is viewed needs to be as smooth as possible to give a good clarity dot. The other end must be blacked out to avoid losing 50% of the brightness and washing out the colour. Lesser brands often make all these mistakes.
  • Durability– The frame must be adequately durable whilst having a good connection to the fibre optic rod inside. Losing the fibre optic out of both of other brands whilst shooting was the reason we started FastHit. The fibre optic will never fall out of a FastHit. If it somehow did we’d send you a replacement anyway.
  • Adhesive– A FastHit sight includes spare adhesive just in case you don’t get the placement right the first time. As far as we know no other brands do this. It’s a small thing but no doubt, often appreciated.

WHY ARE FIBRE OPTIC SIGHTS IMPORTANT FOR SHOOTERS?

Fiber optic sights are beneficial for shotgun shooting for several reasons:

  1. Visibility: Fiber optic sights are designed to gather and channel ambient light, making them highly visible even in low-light conditions. This enhanced visibility allows shooters to acquire their target quickly and accurately track it, which is crucial in fast-paced sports like clay pigeon shooting.
  2. Accuracy: The bright, contrasting colors of fiber optic sights make it easier for shooters to align their aim precisely. This improves shooting accuracy, helping shooters consistently hit their targets.
  3. Quick Target Acquisition: In clay pigeon shooting, shooters have only a split second to acquire their target and take a shot. Fiber optic sights provide a clear aiming point that allows shooters to quickly focus on their target without wasting time trying to align traditional iron sights.
  4. Adaptability: Fiber optic sights are available in various configurations, including front sights, rear sights, and combinations of both. Shooters can choose the setup that best suits their shooting style and preferences, enhancing their overall performance.
  5. Durability: Fiber optic sights are typically constructed from durable materials like tough polymer fibers. This construction ensures that the sights can withstand the rigors of shooting sports like clay pigeon shooting, including recoil and rough handling.

Overall, fiber optic sights offer shooters improved visibility, accuracy, and speed, making them valuable tools for enhancing performance on the shooting range.

WHICH FASTHIT SIGHT IS MOST SUITABLE FOR YOU?

All Fasthit fibre optic sights will give you a bright bead and give you faster visual target acquisition. You can also use any length and diameter for any purpose however some have slight advantages over others for different applications. The smaller 2mm bead is only marginally bigger than a standard metal shotgun bead and is often preferred for targets at a greater distance. Due to its smaller area it obscures less of your sight picture than a 3mm dot. The larger 3mm dot is significantly larger than a standard metal shotgun bead. The benefit of this is faster acquisition of the sight picture. Bear in mind that the positives and negatives mentioned here are minimal and for most applications it is unlikley to make much difference.

We also offer two lengths. The standard and the XL. We find that the standard length is sufficient to provide a bright dot and think that there is only so bright the dot needs to be. However not everyone agrees and if you simply want the brightest bead available then the XL is it. To our knowledge it has a greater area of exposed fibre optic than any other design on the market and therefore a brighter dot. All colours and sizes are available in XL.

We also offer the ‘Speed’ model which is more traditional design and does not use an eye occlusion tunnel to shield the dot from your weak eye. If you shoot with your weak eye closed then you may prefer this as an eye occlusion tunnel is not necessary. Whilst this design does not shield the weak eye, the payoff for this is even faster acquisition of the sight picture as the dot is visible from all angles.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF A FIBRE OPTIC SHOTGUN SIGHT?

When considering the advantages of fibre optic shotgun sights we think about how we shoot and the benefits of switching to a different sight. Fibre optic shotgun sights have an extremely bright glow that stands out from your target and the background. Due to the way the human eye picks up light due to wavelengths, in theory a green or yellow light is more visible than red light. Whilst this is true, the contrast of your sight with the background must also be taken into consideration. Many shooting environments are in the countryside and whilst a green shotgun sight will still show up brightly, it is the preference of many to use a red shotgun sight as this contrasts better against nature in most environments. The benefits of fibre optic shotgun sights are:

  • Faster target acquisition (especially against a dark or unclear background)
  • Superior accuracy
  • Easy to fit. No gunsmith required
  • Bright dot in almost any conditions (other than total darkness).
  • Encourages a consistent cheek weld

WHAT ARE THE DISADVANTAGES OF A FIBRE OPTIC SHOTGUN SIGHT?

The disadvantages are few but

  • Not necessarily a good choice at night, depending on circumstances
  • Whilst tough they are not as durable as a steel bead
  • Some brands other than FastHit can be expensive

Ultimately the vast majority of people find fibre optic shotgun sights very helpful and you will almost certainly find them a huge improvement.
